DOWAGIAC (7/27) Steve's Run is one of those magical things you have to experience to appreciate. The course is magical (if also a little diabolical), the finish line setting in the park is magical, the throngs of volunteers work magic with their musical aid stations and shouts of "Fire Up!" and this year someone even said "Abracadabra" and miracle of miracles, magic of magic dawn brought with it the best weather in the run's 27-year history (gorgeous blue skies and low humidity in contrast to the sauna that baked entrants a year ago).
The race also raised about $ 5,000 in pledges in honor of the man the race was renamed for, Steven Briegel, the son of the school's president, David Briegel. Briegel died in 1990. The funds are split between the Steven Briegel scholarship fund and the Mayo Clinic Cancer Research Fund.
